The Caraffka Gallery’s unique venue, a former historic prison, provided a striking backdrop that amplified the exhibition’s reflection on history, memory, and humanity.

The exhibition Jan Saudek: LIFE was held in October 2020 at Caraffka Gallery and it was the first time this globally recognized Czech photographer exhibited in Prešov.

The show was put together by the gallery with producer Milosh Harajda, and curated in collaboration with Saudek’s wife, Pavlína Saudková.

The exhibition mostly featured black-and-white photographs, including early and less well-known pieces such as a shot of a broken Coca-Cola bottle from the 1960s, symbolizing loss and change. Central motifs included family bonds, particularly the iconic image of a newborn child in a father’s arms, which gives the exhibition its title Life.
