Dover Street Market
During the 16th ASVOFF edition, Czech photographer Benedikt Renč presented a special photographic exhibition within Dover Street Market Paris curated by Milosh Harajda. Rather than showing film works (the main program of ASVOFF), Renč’s contribution was a gallery-style display of 36 digital images — a series he titled “Fashion Stills.”
The series deliberately plays with the term fashion stills — both referencing Renč’s roots in fashion imagery and questioning the traditional glamour of fashion photography. His work reframes familiar tropes by placing models and styled subjects in overlooked, abandoned, or forgotten urban and industrial settings, exposing the contrasts between polished fashion and gritty reality.
According to the project’s creative producer, the series points toward the darker side of the fashion world, including how forgotten spaces and marginal environments are often overlooked yet visually compelling backdrops for high-end editorial work.
Located within Dover Street Market’s multi-level retail/exhibition environment, Renč’s images were installed among the festival’s film screenings, installations and talks, creating a dialogue between still photography and moving imagery — reinforcing ASVOFF’s mission to blur boundaries between fashion, cinema, and art.
